Course Appetizer

Ingredients

  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 pound ground sausage
  • 1 sleeve saltine crackers, crushed
  • 1 tsp. onion powder
  • 1 tsp. garlic powder
  • 1/2 tsp. cayenne pepper
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1/2 tsp. black pepper
  • 2 eggs
  • 2 Tbsp. avocado oil

Whiskey Sauce

  • 3/4 c. strawberry preserves or jelly
  • 3/4 c. grape jelly
  • 1 bottle chili sauce
  • 3/4 c. barbeque sauce
  • 1/2 c. whiskey optional
  • 1 Tbsp. spicy brown mustard
  • 1/4 c. water

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven to 350 degrees. In a large bowl, whisk eggs. Add meat, crackers, and seasonings. Mix together until well combined – I use my hands. Use a small scoop to form meatballs. In a large skillet, heat oil on medium to medium-high heat. In batches, brown meatballs, searing them on each side. Then, place them on a baking sheet or in a shallow baking dish. Bake 10 minutes.
While meatballs are baking, whisk together sauce ingredients in a large skillet. Simmer for 10 minutes. When the meatballs are cooked through, remove from the oven. Pour whiskey sauce over the top. Serve warm with extra sauce.
