Scottish Oat Scones

Whether you’re hosting a formal tea party or making breakfast with your kids, Scottish oat scones are a quick and easy menu option. I’ve done both and everything in between! Plus, I always have the ingredients in my pantry, which saves me an extra trip to the store. For breakfast, my kids and I eat them topped with our favorite jams. When I’ve served them at tea parties, I eat them with clotted cream and jam. Even though these are best served right out of the oven, they also freeze well and can be wrapped as individual servings. Gluten free? Just sub the flour with your favorite 1:1 gluten free flour!

Scottish Oat Scones

Ingredients

  • 2/3 c. butter, melted
  • 1/3 c. milk
  • 1 egg
  • 1 1/2 c. flour or gluten free 1:1 flour
  • 1 1/4 c. oats, uncooked
  • 1/4 c. sugar
  • 1 Tbsp. baking powder
  • 1 tsp. cream of tartar
  • 1/2 tsp. salt

Instructions

  • Pre-heat oven to 425 degrees. Combine dry ingredients. Stir in milk and egg. Gradually stir in butter just until mixture is moistened. On a lightly floured surface, shape dough into a ball, then pat it into a circle – like a pizza. Using a pizza cutter, cut the circle into 8 to 12 wedges, place them on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper (I use a pizza stone). Bake for 10-12 minutes. Serve warm with jam, clotted cream, or honey. Excellent with coffee or tea.
